Resolution Criteria

"This question will resolve as the number of US states, including Washington, D.C., in which fully rider-only ride-hailing trips operated by Waymo are available to the general public on January 1, 2026.

The primary resolution source will be Waymo's website, which as of early 2024 includes a "Where Can You Go?" page. Other credible sources may also be considered in the event of ambiguity or dispute.

Fine Print "rider-only" trip means one in which the only humans in the car are passengers and no human operates the vehicle for the duration of the trip. "Available to the general public" means that any member of the public is eligible to use the service without first joining a waitlist or having been granted use of the service as part of a limited testing or early access phase. "United States" means the 50 states plus the District of Columbia. Therefore the possible outcome range is 0-51. In the event that Waymo's operating status in a given state is ambiguous or disputed, Metaculus admins will resolve the state's status based on the best available information indicating whether, in fact, its autonomous ride-hailing service is publicly available for ride-hailing on January 1, 2026."

Waymo Is Rolling Into Washington | The Georgetowner

Waymo is beginning driver-in-the-loop testing of its autonomous vehicles in Washington, D.C. as it seeks to launch a robotaxi service, but fully driverless rides require new local regulations; the city’s complex traffic and public concerns raise questions about safety, jobs, privacy, and how quickly somethings will move from testing to everyday use.

DC Robotaxi Bill Omits Wheelchair Access While Waymo and Uber Clash Over Rules

The D.C. bill to permit fully driverless robotaxi service lacks any requirement for wheelchair-accessible vehicles, mandating only an app to request rides, which would effectively exclude wheelchair users who cannot transfer out of their chair and could delay deployment until 2028 despite Waymo’s preexisting testing and opposition from disability advocates.

Will Anthropic Boost Alphabet's Earnings to the Stratosphere? - 24/7 Wall St.

Alphabet’s Q2 results could be boosted by a large, one-off gain from its 14% Anthropic stake (valued around $135B) driving an elevated EPS forecast from BofA to $8.38, while the real drivers to watch are Google Cloud growth (with potential reacceleration as TPU capacity expands), cloud backlog and capex discipline (2026 capex nudged to $180–$190B with 2027 higher), and overall impact on free cash flow and AI-related revenue, despite a headline beat already priced in by market predictions.

Robotaxi Blocks Fire Truck? Cops Can Only File a Form

NHTSA warned driverless-vehicle developers after documenting repeated emergency-scene incursions by AVs, noting there is no federal test standard for recognizing emergency scenes, while California’s DMV enforces noncompliance via OL 325 forms rather than citations, highlighting a centralized regulatory gap that makes enforcement slow and limited to paperwork.
